Atender a la ecología interior de cada persona, es una tarea personal que debemos realizar en estos tiempos de cambios, y conducirlo hacia un comportamiento adecuado para el aprovechamiento justo y racional de los bienes naturales. Durante nuestras actividades cotidianas utilizamos electricidad, agua, aire y además tomamos recursos y desechamos recursos. Las acciones que acompañan dicho uso y desecho son acompañadas por decisiones y acciones, que deben ser guiadas, considerando el nivel de impacto que ocasiona en el ambiente.

El pasado 10 de marzo, tuvimos la grandiosa oportunidad de participar en un taller intensivo, en la zona de Nosara, ofrecido por Guardianes de la Naturaleza. Las expertas Andrea Víquez, Georgina Quesada y Jessica Sheffield junto al equipo de CREAR, las y los docentes y administrativos de la Escuela de Sámara y de la Samara Pacific School, nos embarcamos hacia esta aventura. Como parte de nuestra misión es apoyar a las escuelas locales y potenciar alianzas, nos alegramos haber podido organizar la participación en ese taller tan enriquecedor.

La necesidad de atender la ecología interior de las y los docentes y administrativos de los Centros Educativos es una tarea prioritaria, antes de arrancar a trabajar con las mentes más frescas, la niñez en edad escolar.

Nuestra primera misión inició en Playa Garza, realizamos una jornada de limpieza de residuos en la playa, donde se incorporó un elemento adicional, los microplásticos. Estos diminutos pedazos de plásticos, que van poco a poco fraccionándose están cada vez más integrándose dentro de la cadena alimenticia y es que tardan miles de años en desintegrarse. Por ello, la mejor alternativa es dejar de consumir en la medida de lo posible este material.

Las y los profes estaban fascinados por conocer un centro educativo tan particular como lo es Del Mar Academy. La iniciativa Guardianes de la Naturaleza ha crecido gracias al aporte y construcción por parte de la comunidad estudiantil de este centro educativo. Recorrer los pasillos con murales coloridos de la naturaleza, ver plantas que adornan las afueras de las aulas creadas con material reciclado, gracias a la creatividad de sus estudiantes. Además, conocer sobre buenas prácticas de separación, así como el compostaje de residuos biodegradables para producir abono, fueron los detalles más emocionantes.

La plataforma de Guardianes de la Naturaleza ofrece una guía de educación ambiental, la misma ha sido reconocida y promovida por el Ministerio de Educación Pública. Se hace necesario que cada centro educativo por más recóndita su ubicación, sea parte de estos espacios de aprendizaje sobre las nuevas políticas nacionales y globales. En el taller sobre los objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible promulgados por la ONU, realizamos un ejercicio para analizar cada objetivo y cómo este podría ser abordado y aplicado durante el quehacer escolar.

Otro de los conceptos interesantes que pudimos aprender, fue sobre la economía circular. En las últimas décadas, la industria de servicios y productos, han generado una enorme cantidad de contaminación por residuos electrónicos debido al estilo de producción lineal. Bajo un nuevo concepto de producción circular, se pretende que las empresas a la hora de producir bienes y servicios, hagan un uso eficiente y controlado de la materia prima que se utiliza y también que a la hora de que estos productos ya cumplan con la vida útil, se garantice su desarme para el aprovechamiento, reutilización y reciclaje y así sean incorporados nuevamente en la cadena de producción.

Hay que tener muy presente lo siguiente: Nosotros, la ciudadanía tenemos el poder y la responsabilidad de elegir ambientalmente adecuado los productos y servicios que adquirimos, por ende, conocer y apoyar empresas que aplican estos principios, es un paso adelante.

La visita al botadero clandestino y el centro de reciclaje Nosara Recicla, fue la visita que nos dejó sumamente impactados. En manos de Cristian Zumbado, Coordinador de Nosara Recicla, nos sumergió en la historia de cómo ese lugar. Con las manos sumergidas en una pila gigante con diferentes tipos de reciclaje, nos dieron la tarea de ir separando por color, por tipo de material, quitando tapas; mientras el maestro nos relataba. El botadero a cielo abierto, ubicado sobre un manto acuífero, se ha convertido a lo largo de los años en un depósito de basura. Desde el 2008, con el apoyo de Nosara Recicla se estableció un centro de aprendizaje sobre el reciclaje y así apoyar el Centro de Acopio de material de reciclaje.

El recibimiento grato que nos brindó Guardianes de la Naturaleza ha sido un enorme y preciado regalo de motivación e inspiración para las y los docentes de los centros educativos.

Asociación CREAR es un actor clave en hacer alianzas y así potenciar espacios y oportunidades para el aprendizaje. ¡qué mejor oportunidad haciéndolo con los centros educativos de Sámara!

In these times of change, it is essential that we tend to the personal task of caring for our inner ecology and channel it towards appropriate behavior for the fair and rational use of natural resources. During our daily activities we use electricity, water, air and we also take and waste resources. The way we consume our natural resources every day is accompanied by decisions. Considering the level of impact we all generate on our environment as humans, these decisions must be thoughtful and guided.

On March 10th, we had the great opportunity to participate in an intensive workshop in the Nosara area, offered by The Guardians of Nature. The experts Andrea Víquez, Georgina Quesada and Jessica Sheffield together with the CREAR team, the teachers and administrators of the Samara School and the Samara Pacific School, embarked on this adventure. As part of our mission is to support local schools and strengthen alliances, we are pleased to have been able to organize participation in this enriching workshop.

Attending to the inner ecology of the teachers and administrators of our schools needs to be a priority, seeing as they are the people that work with the freshest minds: school-aged children.

Our first mission began in Playa Garza, we spent our time cleaning waste on the beach, where an additional element, microplastics, was incorporated. These tiny pieces of plastic, which are gradually breaking up, are increasingly integrating into the food chain, and it takes thousands of years for them to disintegrate. Therefore, we learned, the best alternative is to stop consuming this material as much as possible.

The Guardians of Nature initiative has grown thanks to the contributions and efforts of the Del Mar Academy student community. Our teachers and staff were fascinated by seeing such an extraordinary school in action. It was such a pleasure to see the creativity of all of the students abound as we walked the corridors full of colorful murals of nature and saw plants that adorned the outskirts of the classrooms created with recycled material. Perhaps the most exciting moment came when we learned about proper trash separation practices, as well as how to compost biodegradable waste.

The Guardians of Nature platform offers an environmental education guide that has been recognized and promoted by Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Education. It is necessary that each educational center, regardless of its location, be part of these spaces for learning about new national and global policies. In the workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals promulgated by the UN, we carried out an exercise to analyze each goal and how teacher’s can further address it applied during their regularly scheduled schoolwork.

We were also introduced to the interesting concept of circular economy. Due to linear production style, the services and products industry has generated an enormous amount of electronic waste and contamination in the past few decades. Under a new concept of circular production, the idea is that when companies are producing goods and services, they make efficient and controlled use of the raw material used in addition to incorporating goods that have already fulfilled their service life back into the production chain.

The following must be kept in mind: We, the citizens, have the power and responsibility to assure the products and services that we acquire are environmentally sound, therefore, knowing and supporting companies that uphold these principles is a step forward.

What shocked us most, was the visit to the clandestine dump and recycling center Nosara Recicla. While our hands were immersed in a giant pile made up of different types of recycling, they gave us the task of separating by color, by type of material and removing bottle caps; all while Cristian Zumbado, Coordinator of Nosara Recicla, regaled us with the dump’s history. Over the years, the open-air site, located on an aquifer, has become a landfill. Since 2008, with the support of Nosara Recicla, a recycling education center was established in order to support the collection center’s efforts.

The warm welcome that Guardians of Nature gave us was a precious gift of motivation and inspiration for the teachers of our local schools.

Asociación CREAR is a key actor in making alliances and thus promoting spaces and opportunities for learning. What better opportunity than to do so with the educators from Samara’s local schools!
