Fixing up the Salon Comunal, aka the New Casa CREAR

After just about 2 two weeks of being in our new location, the Salon Comunal of Samara, we have encountered our share of issues. Don't get us wrong, the Community Center is wonderful, offering ample space, a public and communal area for the children and community at large, room for the library and for organizational growth.

The issues that have arisen are mostly structural, and we are calling on the local community for support. The green season is upon, and with the August wind and rains, the damage in the roof has become more apparent. We have lost several classic children's books, along with other International books due to flooding, water damage, and mold. We need financial help in order to repair the roof. The repairs will include fixing holes, sealing the roof the cement structure, and replacing some of the roofing panes.

The flooding issue further exacerbates our need for proper shelving in the Library and the supply closet. We have been quoted at around $2000 for the shelving, and we need assistance funding this project. Every little bit counts, thus we are calling on local lumberyards and carpenters to help by donating materials and labor. If you have experience in this area and would like to help out, please let us know!

Lastly, we would like to be able to paint the doors in the bathrooms as they have been vandalized with graffiti. We want this space to be a comfortable and welcoming environment for the youth and greater community

The always generous Intercultura Language school has agreed to collaborate with us, however, we need more support from the community and local businesses and associations. We also hope that APROSA, the salon comunal committee, will be able to show their support in repairing some of the structural damages.
