Happy Día del Niño!

Here at Asociación CREAR we love being involved in any sort of activity where kids are having fun. The Costa Rican holiday of Children’s Day, or Día del Niño, is a great opportunity for us to contribute to an environment where kids (and adults!) can run and play and celebrate their youth. We were so honored this year when Mónica, the principal of the El Torito Elementary School, reached out inviting us to collaborate with the big school wide field day celebration. We see the personal invitation as proof that the community values our work and a testament to the friendship that exists between our organizations. Everyone knows that no one does field day like CREAR, so we were more than happy to help our friends at the El Torito School out!

Early on Thursday morning the CREAR team headed out to El Torito to assist with their celebration. As our CREAR team helped to set up the soccer field for sack races, musical chairs, and other dynamic activities, the parent volunteers were busy in the community center dividing the kids into groups and handling the logistics of keeping 140 students in order. We were so grateful to have the support of the parent volunteers, this type of event always runs much smoother when we have extra hands on deck to handle the logistics. It was so encouraging to see so many parents getting involved in the event; Mamas and aunties accompanied the groups of students as they made their rounds through each activity, and Dads volunteered their time serving as a DJ for the event and also dressing up as Bombeta the Clown to play games with the little ones.

We were also overjoyed to have extra help from CREAR alums Yerusha and Isabella! These two young women love CREAR so much that they were willing to give their time to help us. One of our goals in this current season of CREAR has been finding ways to keep our alumni involved in our programs so we loved seeing two of our original star students willing to help out with this event!

The field day went off without a hitch and we had such a blast playing with our students outside of the normal CREAR context. Thank you so much to Directora Mónica and the El Torito School for considering CREAR, it truly is a privilege to serve you!

En Asociación CREAR nos encanta participar en cualquier tipo de actividad donde los niños se diviertan. El feriado costarricense del Día del Niño, o Día del Niño, es una gran oportunidad para que contribuyamos a un entorno donde los niños (¡y los adultos!) puedan correr, jugar y celebrar su juventud. Nos sentimos muy honrados este año cuando Mónica, la directora de la Escuela Primaria El Torito, se acercó para invitarnos a colaborar con la gran celebración del día de campo en toda la escuela. Vemos la invitación personal como una prueba de que la comunidad valora nuestro trabajo y un testimonio de la amistad que existe entre nuestras organizaciones. ¡Todo el mundo sabe que nadie hace un día de campo como CREAR, así que estuvimos más que felices de ayudar a nuestros amigos de la Escuela El Torito!

Temprano el jueves por la mañana, el equipo de CREAR se dirigió a El Torito para ayudar con su celebración. Mientras nuestro equipo CREAR ayudaba a preparar la cancha de fútbol para carreras de sacos, sillas musicales y otras actividades dinámicas, los padres voluntarios estaban ocupados en el centro comunitario dividiendo a los niños en grupos y manejando la logística para mantener en orden a 140 estudiantes. Estamos muy agradecidos de contar con el apoyo de los padres voluntarios; este tipo de evento siempre se desarrolla mucho mejor cuando contamos con manos adicionales para manejar la logística. Fue muy alentador ver a tantos padres participar en el evento; Las mamás y las tías acompañaron a los grupos de estudiantes mientras recorrían cada actividad, y los papás ofrecieron su tiempo como DJ para el evento y también se disfrazaron de Bombeta el Payaso para jugar con los más pequeños.

¡También nos alegró mucho contar con la ayuda adicional de Yerusha e Isabella, alumnas de CREAR! Estas dos jóvenes aman tanto a CREAR que estuvieron dispuestas a dar su tiempo para ayudarnos. Uno de nuestros objetivos en esta temporada actual de CREAR ha sido encontrar maneras de mantener a nuestros exalumnos involucrados en nuestros programas, por lo que nos encantó ver a dos de nuestros estudiantes estrella originales dispuestos a ayudar con este evento.

El día de campo transcurrió sin problemas y nos lo pasamos genial jugando con nuestros estudiantes fuera del contexto normal de CREAR. Muchas gracias a la Directora Mónica y al Colegio El Torito por considerar CREAR, ¡realmente es un privilegio servirles!
