¡Yo Creo... en Andrea!
Este verano nuestra querida Andrea fue la ganadora del Premio Yo Creo acordado por la Universidad Latina en Costa Rica en conjunto con el Premio Yo Emprendo asignado por la universidad hondureña, UNITEC. El premio se entrega a una persona joven que ha fundado o co-fundado una organización o proyecto con alto impacto social. Para recibir este reconocimiento, Andrea se presentó al nivel nacional como el líder de la Asociación CREAR y mostró su capacidad para dirigir una organización social e impactar la comunidad de manera positiva aquí en Sámara y sus alrededores.
Desde el 2009, Andrea ha trabajado con la Asociación CREAR para realizar nuestra misión. Durante este tiempo, Andrea ha encabezado varios proyectos entre ellos el proyecto de apoderamiento femenino para chicas, “Las Divinas”, y el programa para preadolescentes. Andrea piensa en el porvenir. La educación ha sido el mejor regalo de su vida y quiere compartirlo con todos los niños y jóvenes. Ella sabe que “apoyar a la mujer es apoyar a la comunidad”. Tomando en cuenta que las mujeres invierten y devuelven sus ingresos en formas que benefician a la comunidad entera, y que la asistencia internacional para las niñas y mujeres no está al nivel deseado, Andrea lucha para conseguir la igualdad. Se ha dedicado a convertir a las niñas en mujeres responsables, educadas y concientes. Por eso creó el grupo “Las Divinas”, para que las muchachas tomen control de su futuro, y terminen el colegio graduadas e independientes. Andrea cree que para mejorar el mundo es imperativo formar solidaridad entre mujeres y niñas para avanzar sus capacidades y oportunidades.
Como la encargada de la Asociación CREAR, Andrea apoya a todos los que trabajamos aquí en CREAR. Maneja el programa de voluntarios y se encarga de que éstos vayan a El Torito tres veces por semana para llevar a cabo proyectos de arte, aprendizaje y deportivos con los niños del pueblo. Andrea guía a estudiantes universitarios que hacen su práctica con CREAR y sirve como un recurso durante sus estancias. Ella organiza todos los proyectos de la Asociación CREAR y maneja los temas financieros de la organización. Todos en Sámara conocen a Andrea porque además de su trabajo con CREAR, organiza eventos, conferencias y talleres para la comunidad sobre temas importantes para la región y del bienestar de los residentes.
Gracias a la Universidad Latina y como parte del Premio Yo Creo, Andrea tuvo la oportunidad de viajar a Honduras y participar en talleres de capacitación enfocados en liderazgo y en emprendimiento. El éxito de Andrea ha fortalecido la legitimidad de CREAR como una organización social en Costa Rica y nos ha dado el reconocimiento internacional a través de la red del Premio Yo Creo. Durante los talleres de capacitación, Andrea conoció a varios jóvenes que, como ella, están luchando para mejorar el mundo. Pudo compartir experiencias, consejos y formar parte de un grupo vanguardista centroamericano. Además, regresó lista para comunicar sus aspiraciones de formas más claras y concisas para que tengan mejor impacto con la población. Estamos orgullosos y contentos que la capacidad de Andrea como líder se haya reconocido.

This summer our very own Andrea won the Premio Yo Creo, presented by the Universidad Latina in Costa Rica along with the Premio Yo Emprendo bestowed by UNITEC. The prize is awarded to a young adult who has founded or cofounded an organization or project that has had a high social impact. To receive the award, Andrea competed on a national level on behalf of La Asociación CREAR. She showed her ability to spearhead a social organization and positively impact the community here in Samara and neighboring towns.
Since 2009, Andrea has worked at CREAR to reach our goals and mission. She has led several projects such as the girls’ empowerment group, Las Divinas, and a preadolescence youth group. Andrea has the future on her mind. She refers to education as the best gift she’s ever received and she wants to share it with every child and teen. Andrea knows that “supporting women is supporting the community”. Bearing in mind that women invest back into the community in ways that benefits everyone, and that international aid for women isn’t at a desired level, Andrea fights for equality. She is determined to turn girls into responsible, educated and conscientious young women. That is why she created the Las Divinas group, so that girls could take control of their future and finish high school as independent young women. Andrea believes that in order to make the world a better place it is imperative to form solidarity between women and girls to advance their abilities and opportunities.
As the head of la Asociación CREAR, Andrea supports all of us who work here at CREAR. She manages the volunteer program and ensures that they carry out art, learning and sport projects at el Torito three times a week. She guides university students who do internships with CREAR and serves as a resource during their stay. Andrea organizes all of CREAR’s projects and keeps track of the organization’s finances. Every one in Sámara knows Andrea because, in addition to her work with CREAR, she puts together different events, conferences, talks and workshops with and for the community on subjects that are important to the region and to the well being of the residents.
Thanks to the Universidad Latina and as part of the Premio Yo Creo, Andrea had the opportunity to travel to Honduras and participate in skill workshops on leadership and entrepreneurship. Andrea’s success has strengthened CREAR as a legitimate social organization in Costa Rica and it has brought us international exposure thanks to connections from the Premio Yo Creo. During the workshops in Honduras, Andrea met several young leaders that, like herself, are changing the world for the better. She was able to share experiences, advice and form part of a forward thinking group in Central America. She returned to CREAR ready and eager to communicate her aspirations in forms that are clearer and more concise, which will have a higher impact with the community. We are proud and glad that Andrea’s leadership has been recognized by Premio Yo Creo.
