Cada día que pasa, existe una enorme necesidad por trabajar acciones enfocadas en el cuidado del ambiente y de los recuros naturales que necesitamos para vivir.
We see stories of environmental destruction across the globe every day. As each day passes, we become more aware of the need to focus on the care of the environment and the natural resources we, as human beings, need to live.
Costa Rica tiene una riqueza enorme en naturaleza, que brinda muchos privilegios: aire puro para respirar, playas y ríos donde disfrutar y relajar, recurso hídrico para hidratar y para producir alimentos que nos beneficia la salud. Actualmente las conductas humanas no están devolviendo lo mismo a la naturaleza. Mas bien estamos devolviendo residuos plásticos a los ríos y mares, que tardan miles de años en degradar y afectan a la fauna, estamos devolviendo agua sucias con altas cargas de contaminantes, estamos devolviendo la tala indiscriminada de bosques necesarios para limpiar el aire que nosotros mismos ensuciamos, no estamos protegiendo árboles que nos ayudan a mantener los ecosistemas que resguardan gran biodiversidad.
Costa Rica has great natural wealth. These natural resources offer us many privileges: clean air to breathe, beaches and rivers to enjoy, clean water to hydrate people and grow food. Currently, many of our human behaviors are not returning the same favor to nature. Rather than protecting our natural resources, we are dumping plastic waste into rivers and oceans. These pollutants negatively affect sea life, and take thousands of years to degrade. We are allowing runoff from the streets loaded with pollutants to flow into the waterways and oceans. We are still indiscriminately cutting down forests to make way for commercial projects. These forests are necessary to clean the air that we breath. Additionally, this deforestation destroys fragile ecosystems that are host to Costa Rica's immense biodiversity.
Es por esta gran necesidad que desde Asociación CREAR en alianza con la ASADA de Sámara, ha estado trabajando talleres educativos de ambiente en donde el actor principal es la niñez. Gracias a la participación de estudiantes de quinto y sexto grado del centro educativo de Sámara así como estudiantes de cuarto a decimo grado de la Academia de Mareas, hemos convenido estos talleres.
It is because of this necessity that Asociación CREAR, in partnership with the ASADA of Sámara, has been providing environmental education workshops for children. Thanks to the participation of fifth and sixth grade students from the Sámara School as well as students from fourth to tenth grade of the Mareas Academy, we have been able to hold several of these workshops.
En estas dos oportunidades nos hemos enfocado en dos temas, el primero enfocado en recurso hídrico; nos sumergirnos en la importancia del ciclo del agua, para comprender la forma en que viaja el agua y como esta podría ser deteriorada por acciones que impactan de manera negativa. Otro de los temas abarcados han sido agua y salud, enfocado en la forma en que podríamos enfermarnos por no prácticar hábitos saludables, así como la importancia del papel principal de la ASADA de proveer el servicio de potabilización del agua para aportar a nuestra salud.
We have focused on two topics, the first focus is on water resources; students learn about the importance of the water cycle, to understand the way water travels and how this could suffer deterioration due to human actions that impact it negatively. The second focus is water safety as it relates to health. We focused on the ways that people can become ill by not practicing healthy habits, as well as the importance of the role of the ASADA to provide the service of potable water to ensure the health of the community.
Estos temas han sido trabajadados bajo una metodología lúdica y de participación activa que incluye experimentos para explicar los fenómenos y conceptos, análisis y generación de diálogo entre las y los estudiantes sobre situaciones y problemáticas, así como integración de juegos que ayudan al entendimiento de la temática.
These topics have been presented through fun methodology that encourages active participation. The lessons include experiments to help students understand the phenomena and concepts. We also encourage analysis and discussion between students about the environmental problems we face through games and other activities.
Desde la Asociación CREAR y la ASADA de Sámara queremos continuar con esta alianza tan provechosa que hemos conformado con estos centros educativos, mediante una planificación estratégica que incluya el análisis de problemáticas ambientales y propuesta de soluciones que de manera conjunta tenemos que trabajar en la zona de Sámara . Este es el momento clave para ampliar nuestra visión en conjunto con la niñez de Sámara para revertir esas acciones negativas y más bien aprender de los errores que hemos cometido para adoptar hábitos que beneficien al cuido de los recursos naturales y asegurar su sostenibilidad.
The Asociación CREAR and the ASADA de Sámara want to continue building the alliance that we have formed with these educational centers through strategic planning that includes the analysis of environmental problems and proposal of solutions. This is the key moment to promote our vision through the education of the children of Samara. We can reverse these negative effects, and adopt good habits that promote sustainability of our natural resources.
